This case study explains the actions that need to be undertaken to access climate finance for water security, and climate-resilient water and sanitation, from adaptation funds, particularly the Green Climate Fund (GCF). These actions include putting water and sanitation at the heart of climate change adaptation policies and strategies; and bringing the climate rationale into water and sanitation priorities. Moreover, an entity needs to become accredited to receive GCF funds, for which GCF can also provide readiness support. The process steps are illustrated by the case of Vanuatu.
This brief case study was written for the 2025 SWA Sector Ministers' Meeting held in Madrid, 22-23 October.
