This is an updated version of the learning note with the same title published in September 2020. The purpose of this Learning Note is to explore the key challenges faced by private sector WASH enterprises, as well as high-lighting opportunities for future growth and investment. A strong private sector will not only help expand access to critical WASH products and services – but also will help Ethiopia to realize its ODF goal and to achieve GTP II and SDG targets. Information used to formulate this paper was gathered from document research and augmented by in-depth interviews with more than twenty key informants in Ethiopia and the East Africa region.
