Riva Ghana launches with a renewed vision, strengthening systems and partnerships to transform lives

18 August 2026

I am delighted to welcome you to Riva Ghana

For more than three decades, IRC Ghana has worked alongside governments, communities, development partners and sector leaders to improve water, sanitation and hygiene services across Ghana. That commitment remains unchanged. What has changed is how we are organised and how we see our role in the future.

We are now Riva Ghana, part of a global federation of independently led organisations working together to strengthen the foundations of essential public services and support the leaders building stronger nations.

This is more than a change of name.

It reflects how both our organisation and the development landscape have evolved, with a growing recognition that lasting progress depends on strong local leadership, trusted partnerships and institutions that can deliver for the people they serve.

It reflects a journey that has been unfolding for many years, shaped by a simple belief: lasting change happens when leadership is rooted in local realities, institutions are strengthened from within, and solutions are shaped by the people closest to the challenges they face.

As Riva Ghana, we are building on a strong foundation of experience, partnerships and learning. We remain deeply committed to water, sanitation and hygiene, not only because they are essential services, but because they underpin healthier communities, stronger economies and greater opportunities for people to thrive.

At the same time, we recognise that today’s challenges do not exist in isolation. Water security, public health, education, climate resilience and economic development are closely connected. Addressing them requires collaboration across sectors and leadership that can bring people together around shared solutions. That is where we believe Riva Ghana can make its greatest contribution.

Our vision is straightforward yet ambitious:

A Ghana where strong systems transform lives for the better, for all.

In the years ahead, we will continue to work alongside governments, development partners, civil society and the private sector to help tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing Ghana. We will bring evidence, experience and trusted partnerships to support reforms, strengthen institutions, improve public services and help turn ambitious commitments into lasting results.

What gives me confidence is that we are not starting from scratch. We are building on decades of experience, hard-earned lessons and partnerships that have stood the test of time. At the same time, being part of the Riva network gives us access to new ideas, new perspectives and new opportunities to learn from others working towards similar goals around the world.

As we launch Riva Ghana, I want to thank the many partners, colleagues and friends who have been part of our journey. Your trust, collaboration and commitment have helped shape who we are today.

We are proud of where we have come from and excited about where we are going. Most importantly, we look forward to continuing this journey with the many partners and communities who make lasting change possible.

Thank you for being part of it.
