Introducing the Systems Academy

Through Riva, IRC has a new name and brand to formalise the change we’ve been going through for more than a decade. The same is true for the WASH Systems Academy.

17 August 2026

The WASH Systems Academy was first launched in 2019, convinced that systems strengthening knowledge needed to be practical and grounded in how systems actually work, beginning in water and sanitation. Since then, more than 18,000 people across 120 countries have learned with us through self-paced online learning, guided cohorts, hybrid and in-country workshops that feature contextually relevant content, real-world case studies, and content co-created with practitioners. Our courses are now embedded in national training institutes, and we host tailored learning experiences for government partners. Two university systems in Rwanda have embedded our courses in their curricula.

A new name to reflect greater ambitions

Just like IRC, the WASH Systems Academy also had to evolve—shedding away false divisions and old ways of thinking. The WASH Systems Academy has always offered services that sit at the heart of our ambition; to put water and sanitation at the heart of the systems a country depends on.

But water is never just about water. It is life itself, the quiet force behind everything a nation hopes to become. Our learning experiences and offerings have steadily been reflecting that reality and the inherent interconnectedness of our world’s most wicked challenges. That’s why the WASH Systems Academy is becoming the Systems Academy.

What does this mean

More practically, this means that our home is will soon be www.systemsacademy.org

Through the Systems Academy, we will continue to connect people to practical knowledge, local wisdom, global expertise and tailored learning environments that help turn systems thinking into action.

Whether you are a minister, civil servant, utility, regulator, business, civic leader, expert or citizen, the Systems Academy is here to create engaging and effective learning experiences that champion holistic solutions, support critical mind shifts and empower professionals with the knowledge, skills and networks they need to transform systems for our collective wellbeing.

Our new name just better reflects our philosophy and approach, one that sees those connections, and helps others plot a path through them. We have been growing and helping learners to unlock potential for change: to see and do things differently. Embedded in local institutions, shaped by local experience, and connected to a global community of practitioners who are quietly transforming what public service delivery looks like.

The Systems Academy is central to the kind of systems leadership we believe the world needs. As governments around the world take on greater ownership of their essential public services, they will need professionals at every level who can see the whole system, think across sectors, plan for the long term and adapt when things change. That’s where we come in.

If you're thinking about the capability gaps behind your country's service delivery challenges, we can help and we’d welcome a conversation.

Let’s collaborate.
